Mortgage Underwriter (Origination)
Job Brief
We are looking for experienced mortgage underwriters to evaluate and determine the eligibility of loan applications. The mortgage underwriter’s responsibilities include analyzing and verifying loan applications, evaluating risks, and making loan eligibility decisions. Ultimately, the incumbent should be able to exercise sound judgment based on detailed analysis and ensure that all documentation is in compliance with the relevant regulations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Authorizing and underwriting loans.
- Reviewing and verifying loan applications and supporting documentation.
- Analyzing loan risk and requesting additional information as necessary.
- Preparing reports on assessment findings.
- Making loan eligibility decisions and approving or rejecting applications.
- Reviewing and specifying loan conditions as necessary.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and guidelines.
- Documenting and effectively communicating reasons for the approval/rejection of loans.
- Returning applications with additional documentation to the loan officer for review.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of industry standards and guidelines.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
- Meet daily targets & all SLAs as communicated.
Requirements
- Graduate in any discipline
- At least 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in underwriting.
- General knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA and VA guidelines are a plus.
- Good working knowledge of mortgage loan processing and relevant legal regulations.
- Knowledge of standard mortgage nomenclature.
- Ability to interpret & action for any guideline changes.
- Ability to make decisions based on facts.
- Problem solving ability by connecting the dots across the loan documentation.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Competent with MS office applications and automated underwriting systems – LOS, LMS.
- Should be flexible to work in any shift.
