Senior Associate – Legal & Statutory Compliance
Job Brief
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Associate – Legal & Statutory Compliance to manage corporate legal matters and ensure comprehensive statutory compliance, particularly across Indian labour and employment laws. The candidate should have strong expertise in handling legal documentation, technology-related contracts, and ensuring adherence to applicable regulations across multiple states.
Roles & Responsibilities
Statutory & Labour Law Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable Indian labour laws including:
- Shops & Establishments Act, CLRA, PF, ESIC, PT, Minimum Wages, Payment of Wages, Employment Exchange Act, POSH, etc.
- Oversee the entire compliance lifecycle:
- Registrations, renewals, return filings, challan generation, and maintenance of statutory registers.
- Manage labour inspections and draft timely responses to legal notices. Coordinate closures in collaboration with internal teams and compliance partners.
- Ensure timely filing of returns and challans related to statutory obligations.
- Conduct internal audits on compliance procedures and recommend corrective measures.
- Track updates and amendments to central and state labour laws and communicate changes internally.
- Assist in maintaining accurate statutory documentation for both internal and external audits.
- Liaise with compliance partners and government departments for resolution of statutory notices.
- Monitor and update minimum wages periodically as per respective state notifications.
- Collect compliance data from regional teams and coordinate with partners for timely submissions.
- Work closely with the HR team to ensure employee records and policies comply with applicable laws.
- Support employees in availing eligible benefits under ESI, EPF, and EPS.
Legal Advisory & Contracts
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial and technology contracts, including:
- SaaS Agreements, Master Service Agreements, Professional Services Agreements, Licensing Agreements, Vendor Agreements, etc.
- Provide legal advisory to internal stakeholders (HR, Finance, Operations, IT) on:
- Labour and employment laws, intellectual property, data protection, and contract-related risks.
- Maintain and update legal templates and frameworks for risk evaluation.
- Assist in standardizing internal legal documents and improving process efficiencies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a reputed Indian university.
- LLM in Labour Law or Technology Law is a plus.
- 5–7 years of post-qualification experience in:
- A law firm or corporate legal department, preferably with exposure to technology-related contracts and multi-state statutory compliance.
- Strong understanding of Indian labour laws, corporate governance, and technology law.
- Proven experience in handling PF, ESIC, CLRA, and Minimum Wages compliance.
- Excellent skills in legal drafting, research, and contract negotiation.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal teams.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
