Underwriting Specialist
Job Brief
We are looking for an Executive/Sr. Executive – MIS to work closely with the Executive Vice President – HR in executing HR-related projects, policy development, automation, market research, and more. This role will be responsible for corporate MIS, reporting, creating presentations, and supporting backend HR operations (US). The ideal candidate will be proficient in working with internal stakeholders and managing tasks independently.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct end-to-end risk analysis of mortgage loan files.
- Evaluate loan risk by verifying key components of the application, including credit, income, assets, and collateral.
- Ensure adherence to federal and state underwriting regulations and investor guidelines.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of underwriting guidelines, industry standards, and compliance requirements.
- Provide floor support, training, and guidance to team members and new joiners.
- Facilitate certification and onboarding of new team members.
- Supervise production workflows and work queues for efficient operations.
- Conduct regular feedback and refresher training sessions.
- Resolve escalations and support issue resolution with a problem-solving mindset.
- Interact with clients and stakeholders effectively.
- Prepare and maintain reports and documentation as per organizational standards.
- Stay updated with fraud trends related to closing and compliance documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Graduate in any discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mortgage underwriting.
- Additional 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or SME capacity preferred.
- Strong understanding of U.S. federal and state underwriting regulations.
- Hands-on experience with LOS, LMS systems, and mortgage-related platforms.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly PowerPoint; strong presentation skills required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Prior experience in client handling and stakeholder management.
- Familiarity with fraud detection related to mortgage documents and compliance.
- Knowledge of standard mortgage terminology and investor guidelines.
- Flexible to work in both day and night shifts, including weekends if needed.
