Team Lead – Pre Underwriting
Job Brief
We are looking for a Team Lead for the Pre-Underwriting Team who will be responsible for assessing whether the basic risks associated with mortgage loans align with guidelines and are sufficiently backed by the collateral property. This role ensures that loans comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Candidates must have a deep understanding of the entire mortgage lifecycle, with specific expertise in pre-underwriting processes. The ideal candidate should possess comprehensive knowledge of both state and federal regulations, have a sharp eye for detail, and demonstrate a commitment to staying up-to-date in this domain. You will lead a team of pre-underwriters and team leaders, providing guidance and support to drive success and maintain compliance.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Analyze loan documentation holistically to identify risks and ensure compliance.
- Provide hands-on guidance, training, and floor support to team members, including new hires.
- Oversee certification facilitation for new joiners and supervise production workflows and work queues.
- Organize and conduct refresher sessions for operational staff as needed.
- Offer floor support and assist team members in problem-solving.
- Conduct regular feedback and performance review sessions with team members.
- Maintain and deliver accurate reporting as per required standards.
- Stay updated with industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Collaborate with team leaders and supervisors to maintain process health and ensure smooth operations.
Requirements
- Graduate in any discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pre-Underwriting, plus 2-3 years in a team leader or supervisory role.
- Expertise in US federal and state regulations related to mortgage processing.
- Strong understanding of underwriting, submission documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience handling client interactions and managing escalations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder management and team guidance.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Loan Origination Systems (LOS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), and mortgage industry software.
- Knowledge of fraud prevention related to closing and compliance documentation.
- Strong presentation skills and experience using PowerPoint for reporting and training.
