Job Summary

We are seeking an US Mortgage Underwriter (End‑to‑End) who is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and underwriting residential mortgage loan applications from initial submission through final approval and clear‑to‑close. The role requires assessing borrower creditworthiness, evaluating financial and collateral risk, and ensuring full compliance with investor guidelines, regulatory standards, and internal underwriting policies. The underwriter will deliver well‑documented credit decisions based on a comprehensive risk assessment, including the borrower’s ability and willingness to repay, financial stability, and the marketability/value of the collateral property.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform end‑to‑end underwriting of US residential mortgage loans from initial credit analysis to final approval or clear‑to‑close.
  • Review and verify loan applications and all supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to guidelines.
  • Analyze borrower credit profiles, including credit reports, liabilities, and debt‑to‑income (DTI) calculations.
  • Review and calculate income for salaried and self‑employed borrowers using pay stubs, W‑2s, tax returns, and relevant documents.
  • Validate assets, bank statements, gift funds, and sources of funds, including scrutiny of large or unusual deposits.
  • Evaluate property appraisals to confirm value, condition, and marketability meet investor and company standards.
  • Identify and assess credit, compliance, and fraud risks, applying mitigation strategies where appropriate.
  • Deliver underwriting decisions, approvals, conditional approvals, suspensions, or denials with clear and concise justification.
  • Ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements, investor guidelines, and internal policies.
  • Communicate underwriting conditions, documentation requirements, and decision rationale to processors, closers, and cross‑functional teams.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation to support audits, QC reviews, and post‑closing assessments.
  • Consistently meet defined SLAs for productivity, quality, and turnaround time.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience as a US Mortgage Underwriter with complete end‑to‑end underwriting exposure.
  • Skills: Strong analytical ability, sound decision‑making capability, and solid risk‑assessment skills with high attention to detail.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Commerce, or related field (preferred).
  • Certifications: Professional underwriting certifications/training (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Shifts: Flexibility to work in US business hours and/or rotational shifts.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of US mortgage underwriting guidelines, credit analysis, income assessment, and appraisal review.
